Irmagherd and vidya gamez!

August and September have come and almost gone, plenty of unbearable heat and hurricane Irma wrap up summer. I have not done much with retro game collecting lately but have purchased a few newer games.

Beyond collecting, I am slowly working on the start of a classic gaming podcast and the plans include streaming on the weekends. The stream itself has been up and down as the server which hosts it is on its last legs, I hope to have a new server in place sometime in October and a revamp of the content of the stream.

Below is the Sonic Mania Collectors Edition which comes with an awesome Sonic statue standing on top of what looks to be a 1:1 sized replica of a Sega Genesis, a mock Genesis Game cart and a metal Sonic Mania card. The only thing missing is a physical copy of the game, I hope Sega seriously considers doing so as I will pick it up in a heartbeat.

The game itself is amazing, while I have yet to finish it I am roughly half way through and everything from the soundtrack to the level design is top notch, most say this is the best 2D Sonic game since the Genesis while I believe it may also be in the running as top 2 or 3 alongside those games.. it is simply that good!

My first venture into “Limited Run Games” releases, while I will not become a collector of their releases, in general, I did have to purchase these re-releases of two classics from my childhood.

The Dragons Trap is a rerelease done the way all remakes should be done, it includes the original game and a graphical update that retains the originals feel as close as I have ever seen done before, what’s more is you can actually switch between the original and updated graphics on the fly anywhere in the game!

Night Trap was redone using original film footage and video pulled from the non Sega-CD platforms to provide the best video quality released to date, the game itself was never that good to be fair but it had tons of 80’s campiness and was far ahead of its time as a live action video type game. It was one of the games that made my purchase of the Sega-CD addon worth it.

My favorite Anime character in Funko Pop form!

I also grabbed the Samus Returns Amiibo set (I will get the game soon).

Metroid!

Samus!

Random gathering of things and stuff.

Random stuff was purchased this month, mostly due to sales and the opening of a new (and the only) retro game shop in my town.

The classic, purchased at my local shop for cheap and the disk and case are in near mint condition!

Somehow this one has eluded me so I decided to pick up a copy, not the greatest game but Sonic…

A homebrew of the arcade game released for Wreck it Ralph, lot’s of fun!

A bit redundant as I own the Wii U version but they added a ton of little things that make this version of the game unique, the Amiibo is perfect and Poochy is my favorite new Nintendo character in a long time.

This was on sale at GameStop for cheap, I have not played a SF game in awhile so I am hoping that this sequel lives up to past games.

Retro Gamer Annual, why not..

I decided to start picking up Blu-ray copies of my favorite Anime, Amazon had this on sale for $6.99 so it was the perfect time to start the collection.

My focus will be on Ghibli classics, but this was too good of a deal to pass up.

Barnes & Noble had an Image Comics sale running, buy two Image comics and get the third for free. I have read great things about this series so I picked this up along with Saga Volumes 5 & 6, I am still on Volume 4 but being one of my favorite series I will definitely get back on track and caught up.

Amiibo, Arcade Block & Crunchy Roll!

Lots of goodies have made their way here in the past 2 weeks,  I have entered the world of Amiibo with the hopes of collecting them all.. unless of course Nintendo tries to milk the 500 or so Pokemon available along the way in which case I will stick with the main franchise characters.

Two packages arrived this week, one from Arcade Block a monthly goods subscription service. The idea is that you select a theme and each month you get random goods related to said theme, the one guarantee every month is a t-shirt.

In addition to this we also received the Crunchy Roll mystery box which contained 30 random Anime DVD’s, what you get is completely random so while there are a couple known (to me anyway) franchises in the mix there are also a bunch of very obscure titles and luckily most items that are part of a larger series started with the first in the run which saves me from needing to hunt those down before they can be viewed.

Marth I had to order from Amazon U.K and Zelda I found yesterday at my local GameStop, they still have not received any other figures from wave 2 as of today.

Most of the rest were also picked up at GameStop with the exceptions being Kirby from Amazon and Samus from Wal-Mart.

Since playing Super Mario 3D World fans have asked Nintendo for the Toad mini games to be expanded on and Nintendo listened!

I decided to pick up Pokemon Alpha Sapphire as my first foray into the series, sadly I found out that you can only have 1 game save at a time after my son started playing the game so I will have to wait for him to finish before I can start.  😦

Metroid Other M was one on my wanted list and at that price with game and packaging being in great condition I had to pick it up.

As you can see quite the eclectic selection of Anime titles, a few known quantities and plenty of new areas to explore. Any recommendations on where to start would be greatly appreciated!
